Alabama Public Records
Within the past ten years or so Alabama has joined the other
states in transferring its public records to computerized databases. While this
may seem like a natural progression in the use of new technology it has also
made the task of looking up Alabama public records much easier. If you are
reading this that means you have the ability to do public records searches on
the internet from the comfort of your computer desk chair.
This used to not be the case as finding public records in Alabama used to take
considerably more effort. In most cases the best way was to hire a private
investigator who was familiar with the process to find and retrieve public
records. This was and still can be a good way to do public records background
checks on someone just be aware that it can cost quite a bit of money depending
on how much time the P.I. has spent on the investigation.
Public records are considered in the public domain and are therefore available
by law to anyone who requests them. The problem in the past was trying to find
them, which could often be a frustrating exercise. The reason for this was the
fact that these records were kept at literally hundreds of locations across the
state on either micro-fiche or in file cabinets.
If you look at just court records you can see how much of a problem this was.
When you consider there are 528 different courts, from municipal, to district
and circuit courts, to the Supreme Court you can see that finding the records
you are looking for can be quite a task. When you start adding all the local,
state, and federal government agencies that also keep public records the task
becomes overwhelming.
This has all changed as all these public records have found their way into
computerized databases that are accessible on the internet. Records sites such
as Government Registry.org give you complete and total access to any number of
Alabama records that are considered in the public domain.
One thing to remember when looking for Alabama public records is the fact that
the person you are looking for may also have records in another state. This is
where Government Registry.org shows it true power with its ability to search
records databases across the country at the national, state, and local level.
This ensures that you aren't missing information that is an important part of
your public records search.
