Small Business Grants for Women
Every year women are responsible for more small business
start-ups then men. And the interesting part of this whole equation is the fact
that women are more likely to succeed at their business, 75% more likely, then
men who also start a business. The nice thing is there are plenty of resources
available for women who wish to become self-employed including small business
grants for women.
All women owned businesses are classified as being at least 51% owned by a woman
which in turn qualifies them for a variety of government and private grants.
This free money that does not have to be paid back can give any business the
head start it needs to start turning a profit.
There are other choices for financing a start-up such as finding willing
investors or getting a small business loan from the bank but in nearly all cases
this money will need to be paid back. This can add a considerable amount of
stress to any new business venture, particularly for the entrepreneur that put
their personal assets on the line as collateral.
If you are seriously considering getting one of the many business grants for
women, and you should be, there are several things you will need to do before
applying for a federal or private grant.
1. Business Plan – Any business, whether new or established, needs a viable
business proposal or plan. Most grant giving agencies will want to see such a
plan to ensure that the money they are giving will be used in the best way
possible.
2. Research – It is important to research the different types of grants
available to women business owners and what the requirements for successfully
applying for them are. Not all grants will be the same when it comes to the type
of information they are looking for so it pays to be prepared before submitting
your proposal and application.
3. Professional Help – There are accountants and lawyers who specialize in
helping businesses find and successfully apply for grants. They can help make
sure your business plan is sound and that all the necessary paper work has been
filled out correctly.
4. Online Resources – There are a wide variety of online resources that help the
business woman find the grants she needs to build a successful business. These
sites provide the new woman entrepreneur with much of the up front research they
need to select and apply for the government business grants that will help them
build their business.
Every year the government sets aside over 12 million dollars in small business
grants for women available from 80 different agencies. If you are a woman who
wants to start a business it makes total financial sense to tap into this
totally free source of money. The ultimate success of your business could well
depend on it.
